Frequently asked questions

These answers are about my Yumeiho® sessions in Cannes and on the French Riviera. If your question is not here, message me on WhatsApp and I will reply personally.

The method

What is Yumeiho®?

Yumeiho® is a manual method from Japan, developed in the late 1970s by Masayuki Saionji. It sees the body as a set of relationships: posture, balance, mobility, and the way one area compensates for another. A session combines mobilisations, hands-on work on the soft tissues and movement work.

The method

How is it different from a classic relaxing massage?

A classic relaxing massage (such as Swedish massage) is mainly focused on relaxation. Yumeiho® combines hands-on work with particular attention to posture, balance and mobility. Each session starts with an observation of the body and movement, so the work can be adapted to the person’s needs. Relaxation can be part of it, but the approach also aims to encourage more ease and freedom of movement.

Comparing approaches (in French)

Can a session replace medical advice?

No. I do not make any diagnosis: my Yumeiho® sessions are a wellbeing practice, not medical care. They are not a substitute for a medical consultation or for care from a health professional. If you are receiving medical care, sessions can take place alongside it, never instead of it.

Who are the sessions for?

For people who want to look after their body with a personalised approach: active people and athletes, those who spend long hours sitting, frequent travellers, or anyone who wants to preserve ease and freedom of movement.

Sessions take place in a private setting: at home, at your hotel or on board a yacht.

Your back and body

Stiffness or discomfort in your back, neck or joints: is a session suitable?

A Yumeiho® session may suit you if you feel stiffness or discomfort in your back, lower back, neck, shoulders, arms, elbows, hips, knees or legs. These sensations often appear after long hours sitting, travel or sport such as tennis, golf, padel or running.

Each session starts with observing your posture, balance and mobility. I then work on the areas that contribute to that feeling of stiffness, not only the one where you feel it.

The aim is to support your physical comfort and ease of movement. Effects vary from person to person and cannot be guaranteed.

Before booking, please read below the precautions to take and when medical advice is needed.

Can a session feel uncomfortable or intense?

Some pressures or mobilisations can feel intense, but I adjust the intensity continuously to your reactions and to what you tell me. You can ask me to ease off or stop at any time.

When is a session not advised, or medical advice needed first?

A session is postponed in case of fever or infection, or after drinking alcohol. After a recent fall, blow or accident, please see a doctor first. Irritated, broken or infected skin is not worked on.

An area that has had surgery is not worked on until at least three months after the operation, and only once your surgeon has cleared you to resume normal activity; any restrictions they set are respected. If you have a joint replacement or surgical hardware (screws, plates), please tell me before the appointment: some techniques are then adapted or avoided.

Your doctor’s advice is required beforehand in case of osteoporosis, phlebitis or thrombosis, heart or vascular disease, anticoagulant medication, a herniated disc with numbness or weakness, cancer, or any serious chronic illness. If your doctor considers a session possible, it is adapted to their recommendations.

Please also see a doctor before any session if you have recent, intense discomfort that is getting worse or not easing, or numbness or weakness in an arm or a leg.

In case of sudden weakness in a leg, new difficulty passing urine, loss of bladder or bowel control, or numbness of the inner thighs or around the perineum, call 112 or 15 (French emergency medical service) immediately.

Periods are not a contraindication. During pregnancy, an adapted session may be possible, following any restrictions given by your doctor or midwife: please tell me before the appointment.

This list is not exhaustive: if you have a health issue that could affect the session, please tell me before the appointment, preferably by phone. If in doubt, the session is postponed.

The session

What happens in a first session?

The first session lasts 80 minutes. It starts with a conversation about your habits, activities and expectations. I then observe your posture, balance and mobility, and the hands-on work is built from that: mobilisations, soft-tissue work and movement work. Follow-up sessions last 60 minutes.

Sessions

How should I prepare?

Sessions take place fully clothed, on a portable tatami mat (140 × 200 cm) that I bring along with everything else needed. Please wear comfortable cotton clothing (T-shirt, light trousers or leggings) and socks, have a towel for your face, and allow about one metre of free space around the mat. Avoid a heavy meal in the hour and a half before.

How many sessions will I need? Should I book a series?

A single session is possible. But work on posture and movement builds up over time, so I usually suggest a series of about ten sessions, closer together at first, then further apart. For a series, I keep a regular slot for you (for example every Tuesday and Friday at 10 am), and each session is paid after it takes place. We can discuss it after the first session, based on your goals; effects vary from person to person and cannot be guaranteed.
